Rental Registry Info

Properties listed on the rental registry are either considered “lead-free” or “lead-safe/addressed”. Some of this information was gathered from the 2003-2004 survey of landlords in the City of Detroit.

Homes built after 1978 are considered to be lead-free because the federal government banned lead-based paint from housing in 1978.

Housing listed on the registry that was built prior to 1978 is considered to be “lead-safe/addressed”. Landlords or property managers indicated that they had performed abatement activities on the property or that they perform routine interim controls. For those properties listed on this registry built prior to 1978 landlords and property owners have indicated that there is no deteriorated lead-based paint and no lead contaminated dust at the time of the most recent testing. This should not be confused with a finding of no lead in paint and/or soil (“lead free”).

LEAP has no control over and makes no warranties regarding activities that the landlord, management, or residents may have taken since the testing which might have disturbed lead based paint and/or normal deterioration that might have rendered the unit lead contaminated since the date of the survey.
